Alameda Friends of the Parks Foundation member was a part of the Jean Sweeney Open Space Park Development Committee that gathered input from the community through public meetings and online feedback and designed the park based on that input. The park is a new 27 acre piece of land that was secured by Alameda citizen, Jean Sweeney. With her direction and the support of many Alameda citizens (AKA. friends of Alameda parks), the City purchased the land for a very economical price and zoned it park land.
